As the premier professional body for medical laboratory scientists MAMLS will:
- Promote to contribution of laboratory medicine to high quality healthcare in Malawi. Promotion will include correspondence with government, other professional organisations and the public media
- Promote the contribution of medical laboratory scientists as essential healthcare workers
- Support the development of postgraduate training in laboratory medicine in Malawi
- Support continuous professional development of medical laboratory scientists
- Contribute to a coherent workforce plan for medical laboratory scientists
- Promote increasing quality in laboratory medicine in Malawi, including an external quality assessment scheme (EQA) and the SLIPTA route to laboratory accreditation
- Hold a two-day national conference every one or two years
- Publish a regular 4 times a year electronic newsletter that contains topical news about laboratory medicine and key personnel and which allows members to share good practice from their laboratories
- Maintain a website that provides useful information for both members and non-members
- Hold an annual general meeting to present an annual report, annual accounts and to conduct elections of MAMLS officers
- Publicise professional and research job opportunities
- Promote opportunities for members to apply for scholarships to attend international meetings or gain professional training abroad
