Miss Anthali Munthali

Chairperson Of Editorial, Publicity And Membership Committee

She has served as MAMLS taskforce secretary where she played a role in revamping the association and organizing its first Annual general meeting.

Anthali holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medical laboratory sciences from University of Malawi, College of Medicine and Certificate in Clinical medicine (Malawi College of Health Sciences). She has over 9 years of experience working in the public health sector, both clinical and laboratory. Currently she works with Ministry of Health at Mzuzu Central Hospital as a Laboratory officer.

Anthali is passionate about improving and strengthening the linkage between laboratory diagnosis and clinical management of patients with the use of new and advanced scientific technologies. Having worked as a Medical assistant, she has a good exposure and understanding of significance of laboratory medicine to patient management.

She has interest in implementation of quality management systems and improvement of laboratory systems in Malawi.

Mr. Happy Abraham Manda

Chairperson Of Education, Research And Training Committee

Happy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from University of Malawi, Diploma in Biomedical Sciences (Malawi College of Health Sciences), Certificate in Implementation Research for African Countries, Certificate in Antimicrobial Stewardship. Antimicrobial Stewardship in Hospitals, Pacific Open Learning Health Net (POLHN). Has 17 years working experience in a public laboratory and currently is working with Mzimba South District Hospital as a Laboratory officer, District Research Coordinator and District Implementation Plan (DIP) Coordinator. In the laboratory he holds a position of Safety Officer, Internal Auditor and Logistic supervisor.

He has participated and published research work including: Isaac Thom Shawa, John Mponda, Chisomo Msefula, Happy Manda, Mavuto Gondwe, and Cecilia Maliwichi-Nyirenda. (2015). Brine shrimp lethality and phytochemical determination of aqueous extracts of Senna singueana, Musa paradisiaca, and Ziziphus mucronata in Malawi. Journal of Basic and Applied Research, 82-88.

He is a quality laboratory results-driven, self-motivated and resourceful Medical Laboratory Scientist with a successful track record of building and maintaining great teams or workers and communicate effectively with all staff.

Happy has a passion of helping in boosting the existing efforts that aim at setting the existing laboratories into research laboratories and achieve more for a healthy Malawi from evidence based medical practice

Mr. McDonald Donnie Saka

Chairperson Of Finance And Planning Committee

Mcdonald Saka holds BSc Biomedical Sciences, Mzuzu University 2014. Diploma in Biomedical Sciences, MSHS LL Campus 2004, Duly Registered with Medical Council of Malawi. He has Worked with Mangochi District Hospital as Internee then got posted to Machinga District Hospital. and later posted to Karonga District Hospital in 2011 as Laboratory Technician.

While working at Machinga District Hospital, he successfully participated in a number of in-service trainings and workshops an several research activities. One of them is the Anti Malaria drug efficacy study that saw exit of the then famous SP and coming in of Lumefantrine and Artemether (LA) as first line treatment of uncomplicated Malaria. I also participated in a study behavior change in adolescents that was conducted by Invest in Knowledge Initiative (IKI) and many others.

Areas of interest include research and Environmental Sciences, teaching. I like, “Do it yourself” as such when I am not in the Hospital or admiring Environmental Sciences, I do handy man duties at home. I like reading, cycling and some little swimming.

McDonald envisions that the Association should reach a state of financial independence. This would be achieved through strategizing on some income generating activities and also through out of pocket registration fees from members. Finally he wishes an independent Laboratory Profession in Malawi that would help contribute effectively to the welfare of Malawians’ Health.

Mr. Brighton Mwenifumbo

Chairperson Of The Disciplinary Committee

Brighton holds a Bachelor’s Degree in biomedical sciences with 4 years work experience as Laboratory technologist, 1 year as research assistant @ Luke international Norway. He currently works at Mumbwe private hospital in Mzuzu as a lab technologist. Brighton is highly motivated, hardworking, team work and aspires to achieve more as a lab tech.

He intends to work with a team of laboratory personnel in addressing a number of issues that are regarded of disciplinary in nature. He believes that tackling such issues would improve the relationship between employees and employers in both public and private institutions. These issues range from; use of untrained or unqualified personnel to conduct lab tests, exploitation of laboratory personnel by some health facilities, unprofessional or unethical conduct of some lab personnel, unhealthy working conditions and many others issues that affect the quality delivery of medical laboratory work.
